The half-man/half-robot Frenchman is set to tackle Nick Heidfeld's current record run of 41.6 seconds, an average speed of just over 100 mph, established in 1999. Loeb will pilot his insane Pikes Peak racer, the Peugeot 208 T16, as F1 cars were banned from full-tilt runs up the hill after Quick Nick set the record.
Heidfeld set the record in an MP4-13 as a test driver for McLaren. I'm trying to find a source for this story but I recall reading that while Ron Dennis told Nick to just enjoy his experience, the young German took this a bit more to heart than intended and went all out, much to the chagrin of his boss.

This will be interesting.

This video takes the cake for sketchiest deceleration on the hillclimb ever.

The acceleration was pretty damn sketchy too. :D
Also, the guy in that Bowler Nemesis must have been crapping his pants seeing that Tacoma flying up behind him like that.

The half-man/half-robot Frenchman
That would explain why he seems so disproportionate.

Prediction:
Not only will Loeb beat the record, he will beat it so badly everyone will forget the previous records even existed. He will also do it with one hand tied behind his back, with his eyes closed, while reading a novel and planning his next adventure in "retirement".

seemed like he couldnt control the wheel spin or the power....that decel behind the truck i was waiting for a rear end collision.

Managed to saw Loeb at the 2012 Rally Wales live, excited to see him relatively up-close at WTCC.

My favorite Goodwood video ever.
Just seeing him throw that thing around the course is amazing.

So much fuel.

Complain all you want about the missing sound in the current F1, I feel like I am the only one who misses the grooved tires. I guess it is not as much the grooves, as the old rule that had the fronts and rears so close in size - I just think it made the proportions of the cars work so well visually.
Amazing to see how far we have come with front wing aero too. And that old West McLaren livery is still one of the best.

597 feet of elevation?
Let's call it "Sebastian Loeb and 59 Stories"
Worked better in my head than in writing.

Time to fire up Gran Turismo and some hillclimb cars....

he will break the record whilst getting roadhead and reading a novel

Looks like me when I've had too many beers and I try the hillclimb on GT6.

seems to take it for the sketchiest everything ever

That man will hold every record he can get his hands on.

Holy shit, dat black smoke! And boyyyy is that thing sketchy as fuck!
![]() 03/20/2014 at 13:36 |

I'm honestly not sure the Loeb-bot can do it. The top speed of the Peugeot may be too low.

My first track instructor told me (though I already knew) that the gas pedal is not an "on" "off" switch. Someone didn't tell this guy that.

Prediction: Loeb won't sound have as good as that F1, and thus I will enjoy watching this run a lot more.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 13:47 |

The average speed was just over 100mph (about 107mph), not 141 mph.

I want to see a modern IndyCar run up Pikes now that its all paved, even though it would be insanely dangerous. I mean, it was part of the IndyCar championship for decades, afterall.

I can only assume if/when he succeeds, he will step out in the parking lot to leave only to receive a(nother) letter from Lord March urging him to set lap records in three cars of March's choosing, continuing on until he dies of old age presumably.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 13:58 |
|
Correct you are and I've fixed it now - the average is 100.4 mph - 1.16 miles in 41.6 seconds.
I should have double checked after I read it on Heidfeld's website .
![]() 03/20/2014 at 14:01 |

I misquoted the average speed (it's actually ~100mph) so it may be more attainable than you thought earlier, his average speed up Pikes Peak was about 90mph. They will probably still have to change the gearing in the car as it's more high speed than acceleration though.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 14:04 |
|
They will probably adjust the gearing for the track.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 14:11 |

Ok, if the record average is around 100 I'd say he'll take it. When you said 140 was the record I was skeptical because the Pug tops out at 145.

Sketchiest everything. That looked like my GT6 runs.

This is why I like Red Bull and Dietrich Mateschitz. He's basically said buy my overpriced drink and I'll make your motorsports wet dreams come true. Plus you get a drink out of the deal. Which can be mixed with vodka for giggles. Just imagine if Red Bull's money wasn't floating around.

The last three stories have had "Goodwood", "Ballsiest" and "Beat-Off" in the titles.
That is all.

It would be pretty awesome if they allowed F1 cars back in. Especially if they had battles for the record
![]() 03/20/2014 at 15:32 |
|
To be clear, F1 cars are allowed to run the hill and do so every year, they are just not allowed to go full tilt. I agree that they should be allowed to go for it though.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 15:32 |

An excellent streak if you ask me.

When did they convert that rig to diesel?
![]() 03/20/2014 at 15:38 |

His lines will be tidy, his acceleration clean.
It will be the most uninspiring, boring as hell record smashing run ever.

try it with champagne or sparkling white wine.
ps: drink with moderation, not for underage drinkers, not for non-jalops.

Also the sketchiest headlamps?
![]() 03/20/2014 at 16:08 |

It's not, that's just how much fuel is being poured into the cylinders.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 16:23 |

I know. Its just insane how rich they have it.

Why are F1 cars banned?
![]() 03/20/2014 at 20:56 |
|
They're not banned. They're just not allowed to go all out.
![]() 03/20/2014 at 20:57 |
|
Banned from full tilt runs (because of safety concerns most likely, lack of run offs, straw bale barriers, etc) but they're still run at the event regularly.

Still the most impressive vehicle I have ever seen in person. Loeb driving it is flat unfair.
